Report
The evening opened with Munir Merchant ‘mercy ruling’ Adam Carlson 4-0, with 12 minutes remaining in the second half. His first goal came from a low shot in the fifth minute, after a build up using three figures to push the ball through Carlson’s defense on the left site. The second followed five minutes later when a weak shot crept past Adam’s goalkeeper. With just two minutes remaining in the first half Munir scored his third with chip shot over the goalkeeper. The final goal was an unstoppable hard drive into the left side of the goal.
With their remaining time Merchant and Carlson decided to practice a shoot out. They missed their first two shots and scored the third, the one straight in front of the goal. Munir scored his fourth and fifth shots and Adam missed both, which gave Merchant the 3-1 shoot out win.
A goal in each half gave Wayne Smith his victory over Simon Hutchinson. Both players enjoyed periods of possession and both goalkeepers were called into action. Smith’s first goal came in the eighth minute from miss hit chip that deflected off the far post and into the goal, rather than going over the goalkeeper. The second was scored in the fourth minute of the second half from a shot that went under Simon’s goalkeeper. Then with a minute remaining Wayne pushed the ball around one of Simon’s defenders, touched up on the moving ball, and shot for goal only for the goalkeeper to make a good save.
It took Simon Hutchinson four minutes to score his first goal against Merchant with a chip shot left of center into the far corner of the goal. Simon doubled his lead with two minutes remaining in the first half with another chip shot from the left side. In the second half Merchant did get in a number of attacks forcing Simon to make three saves with his goalkeeper. Midway though the half Simon made it 3-0 with a low blast to the far post.
Dominic Hutchinson went down 0-1 to Carlson in his only game of the night before he injured his right hand and stopped playing. A lot of the game was played in midfield with Adam on the offense and Dominic making accurate defensive to keep Carlson out of his shooting zone. The only game came in the fifth minute of the second half. Adam had spent most of those minutes with possession trying to find his way through Dominic’s defense. Only when Dominic made a mistake, striking the ball when it was not his possession requiring his figure to be moved back, did it give Carlson the opening to shoot and drive the ball into the goal. Adam went close again, striking the post and the crossbar, and forced Dominic to make three more saves. Dominic’s best chance came with three minutes left in the game when his goal bound shot was parried by Carlson’s goalkeeper.
A quick break in the second minute and a chip shot into the top of the far corner gave Carlson an unexpected lead against Simon. The elder Hutchinson increased the speed of the game to keep Adam unsettled, as if he was given the time Carlson was making good defensive and offensive flicks. It took until the twelfth minute of the first half for the elder Hutchinson to equalize with a chip shot from the left wing, and the first half ended even. Simon’s pressure continued at the start of the second half and in the second minute he took the lead with a goal from the left, that was very similar to his first. Adam’s attempts to push forward left a gap in the middle of his defense, and just three minutes after he scored his second goal Simon scored his third exploiting the gap and drove the ball into the goal. It was not all one way traffic as Simon was called upon to make two saves with his goalkeeper to prevent Carlson from scoring a second.
Smith took the lead in the fifth minute only for Merchant to equalize just two minutes later. Munir patiently played the ball through Wayne’s defensive before unleashing a powerful shot that his opponent was unable to stop. Merchant defended in numbers and the first half ended even. Smith’s second goal came from a chip shot. Munir managed to get his goalkeeper to the ball but was unable to push it out. Wayne’s third goal came after a string of corners. From the fourth corner the ball stopped on the penalty spot. Smith’s shot sliced the ball, and it rolled slowly into the left side of Munir’s goal.
